As entrepreneurs like SpaceX founder Elon Musk launch increasingly powerful rockets , call for a new space race , and prepare to send astronauts into orbit for the first time, it’s an exciting time to think of joining NASA’s ranks. But to apply to be an astronaut, you must first pass a stringent list of requirements, including being a US citizen, having an accredited college degree in science, engineering, or mathematics, and three years of professional experience or 1, hours piloting a jet aircraft under your belt. Then you have to go through a grueling selection process that is about 74 times harder than getting into Harvard University: NASA selects a new astronaut class once every couple of years, and picked only 12 of 18, applicants in So how much does NASA compensate its astronauts for their experience, extensive training, and willingness to risk their lives to explore space? May conduct research to further the understanding of the complex chemical combinations and reactions involved in metabolism, reproduction, growth, and heredity. May use geological, physics, and mathematics knowledge in exploration for oil, gas, minerals, or underground water; or in waste disposal, land reclamation, or other environmental problems. To the heart of the problem and the truth: big business and organized religion have corrupted the government at all levels, and they have systematically disillusioned the public. While astronauts may spend a majority of their time on Earth — in gyms, simulation environments and classrooms — they also complete space missions in zero-gravity environments. There’s a strong emphasis on safety and ensuring that astronauts are mentally prepared for the mission. Besides, shutting down NASA programs means that it’ll cancel many science programs. Space exploration is an expensive venture, and it would take massive expenditure, and government commitment, to expand the program beyond its current levels. Alice Lv 4. It is widely reported that NASA costs a lot of money. I heard it reported that the budget of the USA could run for only about 4 days from the savings of eliminating NASA completely from the budget.
Also, NASA’s budget was 18 billion this year. The th top company in revenue made about 40 billion last year. Is NASA really such a drain on the economy? It’s used when the writer doesn’t bother to identify actual instances that validate such claim. Of course, this is not the same as «widely reporting». At best, it is «tentatively asked». But if you don’t mind sharing, please give instances of such «widely reported» instances. For the benefit of the question, of course.
By the way, how much do you consider that NASA costs to the american tax payer? Lets say for each tax dollar, how much does it cost to maintain NASA?
We can’t guess where are you ever getting your i. Don’t be greedy, share it peopl people okay? The numbers are. And NASA is reporting. It would be interesting asking which ones ought to be dropped completely, and why. I suppose it would be worthwhile to ask you Makw level of expenditure would be considered «sufficient».
Ten billion US dollars per year? One billion per year? Of course, if you consider shutting down rocket launches then private companies such as Boeing will become angry at it, because they’d lose a big client. I have no idea how much money NASA pays to private contractors to build and prepare the rockets it uses; but if I or you dig enough surely we might find something to get an idea about it. Besides, shutting down NASA programs means that it’ll cancel many science programs.
At the very least, it’ll restrict itself to launching stuff for the Military — although I wouldn’t be surprised hod they’d be able to do it themselves. After all, prior to NASA’s creating in the late s the Army was already developing medium-range rockets Redstone missile. This is really a eo question. I like space exploration a lot. But the arguments made for continuing space exploration muvh disengenuous. We do not really expect that research on the international space station or anything which monry from a trip to Mars will really improve the quality of life on Earth in a physical kake.
The only reason to go to Mars is to satisfy the human drive to explore. For some people, that is reason. An economic analysis would say it is a foolish endeavor. On the other hand, there is no reason to think that the money spent on space exploration would be redirected to the starving if space exploration were discontinued. It would logically be retained by the masa if it were not going to be spent mkney NASA.
Then you would be back to hoping that individuals mch form and fund an organization which would make a substantial impact makd the plight of the hungry. So far, the mpney, that is the taxpayers, have been, in the aggregate, through the representation of their legislators, willing to fund NASA, while they have mxke no outcry to give their tax money to mucg hungry.
Nope, science should constitute more of our spending in my opinion, it’s certainly more productive than pumping out fighter jets. It’s criticized as a waste because people misunderstand how much is spent, and politicians can capitalize on the misconception. The James Webb Space Telescope which is in real danger of cancellation costs about 1 day of the military budget. As has been stated we are fighting for a reason. In Iraq we are fighting for oil, In Afghanistan we are fighting to put natural gas pipelines across that monsy, and in Libya we are fighting to pay back the Brits who helped us in war and need the oil and gas.
Iraq is getting more dangerous by the day and Afghanistan’s corrupt government will be overthrown the day after we leave it. Bin Laden is dead he wasn’t in either country. Lets leave and save a few trillion dollars that we borrow from Saudi Arabia and China.
They don’t have enough budget to send people into space, like they have been doing for almost half a century. Going to in space is much more important than killing eachother. But, we are fighting for a reason. Do the math. It is sad. I ,uch get why people don’t realize how amazing and informative space travel can be. We’re juch so wrapped up in killing each other we’re not even trying to figure out the universe we live in.
Yeesh, people. But the most destructive to the wealth of the nation has been the endless, unwinnable wars the so-called «war on terror». To the heart of the problem and the truth: big business and organized religion have corrupted the government at all levels, and they have systematically disillusioned the public. Business and religion, they have destroyed this country and our way of life.
